Defective/Hazard Beware

Purchased this cooktop exactly one year ago. My wife was cooking dinner with pan on the center burner when all the sudden we hear a loud pop. We notice the entire glass top had shattered. Called Home Depot and they directed me to the manufacture. My feeling is this is a defect not a warranty issue. We will see how Frigidaire responds.

I currently have a Frigidaire Gallery 36' Electric Cooktop which is going great! I bought it in 2006 and it is still going strong, the only reason I bought a new one (not installed) as the old one is working good, but the glass is broken a bottle fell out of my kitchen cupboard above the stove and cracked the top around the edge a long time ago but now part of the cracked glass got bigger and came off, but the stove is still working very good, except for when turned on it takes a little time to get fired up. I am holding off to install the new one as for fear of breakage. I would also like to know if the glass could be replaced if broken. I still consider this stove top a very durable. We cook at least 5 day a week.

Our new cooktop offers a wide variety of burner sizes: a 10" Quick Boil burner, 6" and 7" burners, and a 9"/11" expandable burner. Additionally, the burners all have a wide heat range and are particularly good in the lower simmer settings.

Positives - This works as advertised and was a pretty easy installation overall. It has a good appearance and having the knobs in the front (vs on the side) in a plus. The "Quick Boil" burner (L rear) works far better / faster than our previous stove top and the "simmer" option resolved our issue of having to constantly watch over slow cooking items.The Negative - is really more of a nuisance item. Even though the control knobs are in the front, the burner icons are difficult to see unless the lighting is bright enough. It would be better if these were either back lit or had the same inscription lettering as the "Hot Surface & Element On" indicators. We waited for 6 months to get this

I love this cooktop as it has 2 large burners in the back - that way the heat from them gets sucked right up into the vent above. I also like the Quick Boil burner, which heats up quickly! Also, I love the feature that when all burners off, the red warning light goes off.

This cooktop works well. I like having five eyes instead of four. The reason for the three stars and is that the knobs are kind of in the way. They're at the front, and so I can't just slide something off of it. Also, the large eyes are on the back. That's what I usually need when I'm cooking, so it would have been more convenient for them to be on the front. However, I saw all of that when I bought it, so it's really my fault. It does, however, work perfectly.

Works great and looks nice too. Like the burner layout. Use the big burner a lot with big pots of soup, stew and canning. Only bit of downside is it's harder to clean than my old metal exposed cool cooktop. You can't just wipe this down with a wet dish cloth.
