samsung counter depth refrigerators are a nightmare. the quality and reliability are atrocious. we've had ours for not even six years and have already had the ice maker repaired twice and the entire evaporator coil replaced. it's now failed again and we've had it - we now have to completely replace a $3500 refrigerator. we've contacted samsung and they refuse to help us in any way, even though these issues are well documented. avoid at all costs!

Nice refrigerator, major flaw

we were happy with this refrigerator's performance and features until about a year ago when the motor started making a loud noise. turned out it was ice that had built up behind the inner back panel, unbeknown to us. ice also builds up in the icemaker, preventing cubes from dispensing. of course, our warranty had expired when that happened. i see in online samsung forums that i'm not the only one with this problem. the repairman just left after the fourth visit in a year, installing a new samsung "kit" that's supposed to fix it. frankly, i'm not hopeful.

this is only the 2nd bad review i have ever written. we bought this fridge 4 years ago, and the ice maker has never worked for more than a few weeks without the ice-cube apparatus turning into a giant ice cube that needs chiseled out. probably since its in the fridge which gets opened all the time. you cant remove the maker to fix it, you have to just work in that tight little space. we buy ice at this point. now for the past 2 months, the fridge wont hold temperature. the display is constantly blinking, our food freezes sometimes, and now the ice maker is too far gone to even chisel out. sometimes the motor gets so loud we can hear it in the living room. we clean the coils behind it, etc. so we know its not us. just a crappy, expensive fridge that now we have to replace.

Horrible Ice Maker

the ice maker freezes over constantly. no "trouble shooting" works. if you don't thaw it once a week, it will not be possible to open. i have to keep ice cube trays, and that's a huge disappointment.

Bought it in December 2018 and from the start condensation built up on the right door. Got so bad the water dripped in the freezer and froze. Samsung Service came and sent photos to Samsung as they thought I had damaged it. The said replace the seals, but photos showed door damage so they send a new door and seals. Does not work. Samsung said it was the french door seal, which typically is not used in Florida. Tests showed a wiring problem in left door but french door heater came on anyway. New door heater came but with wiring problem decided we need a new left door. waiting for that and the ice maker has stopped working. Service coming tomorrow, if they can get ice maker parts, but don't count on being fixed. Would definitely not but another Samsung.

The Worst Refrigerator Ever

Only 3 years of use. First year ice maker was slow. Eventually, the I figured that the ice was melting inside the ice maker eventually clogging it. Also, ice would build up around the fan, eventually the fan would hit the ice and make a loud noise. We paid $200 for a Samsung tech repair, but the ice melting issue continues and now the fridge stopped cooking. In conclusion, the worst refrigerator ever!

Major issue with ice machine

Ice machine never worked properly from the beginning. Unfortunately we didn't deal with it within the 1 year warranty, and had to pay $250 for a repair, which did not solve the problem. Ice melts, machine gets clogged, no ice dispenses, and now fridge won't get as cool as it used to. Very disappointed.

Two and a half year experience

I have never before written a long-term review. My initial review would have been average based on two factors: 1) the ice maker (as noted by many other reviews) is a very poor design. The cubed ice oft times comes out as crushed; the amount of ice it makes is small volume; it drips from the opening latch onto the tray; 2) sweating with mold build up on the seals (even after turning off the energy saver feature). This review adds a new experience. The refrigerator compressor now makes a whirring, rattling sound. Although it still refrigerates the noise is quite disturbing and I suspect at some point in the not so near future it will need to be repaired. When that time comes, unless Samsung does the right thing and fixes it gratis, I will purchase another manufacturer's refrigerator.

More trouble than it is worth.

I have owned this refrigerator for 3 and half years. The last year we have had to defrost the it at least once a month. A buildup of ice occurs in the cooling coil that causes a terrible noise from the cooling fan. Eventually, it will stop cooling the refrigerator. We had a repair person come out to try to fix it (cost us $400) - he told us it was a known design flaw and there is no fix. It takes ~30-35 minutes each time to empty the refrigerator, take off the back panel, defrost the cooling coils, and put everything back. We have called the Samsung customer service many times and they have been no help whatsoever. I have done everything they have recommended and the problem persists. Yes, the refrigerator is at least three inches off the ground. Yes, there is sufficient clearance in the back. No, there are no uncovered liquids in the refrigerator. I live in Colorado, not the tropics, so it is not the relative humidity in the air that is causing this problem. I cannot afford to buy a new refrigerator and all I want is for this one to work properly. I should not have to defrost it once every three or four weeks. I do not recommend buying this refrigerator.

Beautiful Fridge BUT............

We did order the fridge from online third party shop. Yes, we love its design and overall features not until it stopped cooling after 7 days! Technician was able to fix it. Just so disappointed that it already stopped working after the first week and I had to take leave just to attend the technician! Not the wasted produce and frozen foods because of the fridge breakdown in Texas summer! Fast forward couple of days, we noticed that ice is forming by the fridge door. Looks like gap on the sealing. Not a big deal at least it is cooling. Waited for the holiday break so did not need to take a leave from work. The first technician changed the seal, NOPE, there is still a gap. Could be door or the fridge wall itself. Samsung wanted a second opinion, FINE! But they kept cancelling our ticket. It's been 36 days as of this writing, and we have opened a total of 4 tickets already, and this issue still has not been resolved! As much as we love their products, they are acting so hard to work with! So much to our disappointment.

What a lovely looking fridge, right? I've loved this fridge.. until now. It is just over 1.5 years old, with a warranty lasting one year. 5 year extended warranty from Sears also now invalid.. along with the company. I'm now receiving a bill for $500 to fix a broken ice maker. In my opinion, I do not believe that any high quality product should be faulty after this short of use. I got rid of my 30 year old Kenmore upon this new fridge purchase...... my mistake. Proceed with caution.

The worst refrigerator ever!!!!!!

I purchased this refrigerator two years ago and within the first year the ice maker stopped working. It was still under the one year warranty, so Samsung sent someone out to repair it. Now here we are two years and two months later and this refrigerator has completely stop work. It will not hold a temperature. I had a service repair service come and try to repair it. To no avail. All the inside panels were replaced but this still did not fix the issue. When I called Samsung the representative informed my warranty is up and there is nothing they can do help. This is very disheartening considering the price I paid for the refrigerator and the fact it only lasted a little over two years. I'm very disappointed in the durability and quality of the unit.

Worse refrigerator RF23HTEDBSR

I bought this Samsung model refrigerator in 2015 for $3300. It's been nothing but trouble from the start. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty. Within the first 6 months the refrigerator motor started buzzing, service folks came out three time before replacing motor. Then few months later, the Ice maker froze up, had sloppy wet ice. Over the next 18 months had 6-7 service calls on ice maker in frig. Ice maker squirted water out then slushy wet ice would finally come out. Ice box frozen and can't remove the ice box. This refrigerator was a lemon from the start. It's now 10/2018...The place where I bought it agreed this refrigerator is a LEMON. They have fully refunded my money on this refrigerator and I'm replacing it with a Frigidaire.

Abysmal quality - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Our fridge is only 30 months old. Having all the same major issues reported on Samsung message boards. Already had the entire ice maker replaced once and, after only about 2 months, it's failing again. But this time our evaporator coil got so iced over that the fridge died, so not sure if that is making the ice maker issue worse this time. We've now had the ice maker replaced and the entire evaporator section will be replaced this week, likely the ice maker again soon. The ABT tech tells me there is also a widespread issue with condensation under the crisper drawers that will require a service in the next six months. Due to fridge failure all of my food is in coolers in my kitchen - I have a loaner fridge arriving today. Luckily I had the foresight to spend $150 on the four-year extended warranty through ABT. Scheduling the service takes several days and is very inconvenient but it costs nothing. In any case I cannot continue to deal with this and have a feeling that, come next summer, I will have a new fridge. Certainly not a Samsung. My advice to anyone - if you're having these same issues and don't have an extended warranty just bite the bullet and get a new fridge. You'll spare yourself a lot of frustration and will probably save money in the long run. Samsung, you should be ashamed. The quality of this unit is abysmal and your refusal to admit your error and support your customers is even more outrageous. You have lost a customer for life, and I will make sure that anyone I know considering a new home appliance knows my experience in vivid detail.

Awful ice maker

The fridge itself is OK. Doesn't hold much but I suppose that is expected with a counter depth model. The ice maker on the other hand is terrible. We had one of Samsung's authorized repair companies out 4 times to try to fix it, the last time was even with a Tech Rep from Samsung, and they still cannot resolve the issues. It works for a while and then a month or so later reverts to making slushy ice along with constant dripping from the dispenser area. Every time, the same problem. Now Samsung tells us they will no longer cover the repair since the fridge is out of warranty. Well you never fixed the problem to begin with, had it been fixed properly when it was still under warranty none of this would be necessary. I imagine the problem could have to do with the fact that the actual ice maker unit is in the refrigerator section, not the freezer section. So some of that warmer air might seep in and melt the ice. I don't know, all I know is we have 4 Samsung TV's, and this Samsung refrigerator will be the last Samsung product we purchase. Their Customer Service (outsourced) is very poor as well.

ice freezer and fan in twin cooling unit freeze up.

ice forms near the fan on the twin cooling unit causing not enough air going to the ice making unit. When that happens ice that is made begins to melt causing water to come out when you call for ice, then ice will come out. The fan in the twin cooling unit also makes a lot of noise because the fan blades are hitting ice that has formed in the unit. I have to unload the refrigerator, luckily I have another refrigerator in the garage and shut the Samsung off to let the ice melt, clean up the mess and turn it back on and move everything back in. Samsung is aware of this defect and I find I am not the only one with this problem. But, Samsung has chosen to ignore it as they have other issues that I've had with their appliances.

Design issue after Oct 2016 Update

Samsung updates the design of their products but does not increment the model number, so it is impossible to know whether this issue will apply to you or not... sorry! A redesign between the July 2016 production run and October 2016 production run means that the upper tracked freezer drawer has been redesigned. In place of the tracked inner drawer, a new drawer is now shipping with these refrigerators that does not operate as well. The removal of the tracked drawer means that the freezer drawer now has a much louder operation, as the upper drawer has to both close an air gap and clunk up as it is pushed back. The previous design (with tracks) ensured super-smooth operation so the design change was not optimal. We own both the July 2016 version of RF23HTEDBSR/AA as well as the October 2016 version of the RF23HTEDBSR/AA and the difference in build quality was immediately apparent. Thusly, read reviews here with a grain of salt as the unit has likely seen design changes since the initial reviews were written. Support is not a help, as they point to the new design as an improvement and that it works as intended. I'm having to work on my own to try and track down a replacement drawer.

Ice Maker Design is horrible

I have had this refrigerator for 1 1/2 years. The counter depth limits space but I needed it. The icemaker is the big issue. I read the reviews and had some hesitations about this model and Samsung in general due to the ice maker issues. The ice maker freezes up and I am constantly having to shut it off to TRY to defrost it but it never fully defrosts. The customer service advice was to unplug the refrigerator and let it thaw! I can no longer use the ice-maker and am reduced to buying bags of ice at my local store. The online support is not helpful at all.

Wonderful Refrigerator!

My wife says this fridge must have been designed by a woman! She loves every feature and it's quiet operation. Our previous fridge (only 1 year old) moaned and groaned from the day we got it. Even though this is a 'smaller ' counter depth fridge, there is more usable interior space than in the old 26 cu. ft. fridge.

I bought this fridge and loved it. the Showcase is awesome and I love the shelf that flips up for more room. However at 1 year and 1/2 the ice maker broke. Now after a year of trying to get it fixed the repair person has said there is nothing they can do. So I have a refrigerator that is 2 1/2 year that the ice maker does not work. So upsetting to say the least. The repair man also told me that they see this a lot in Samsung refrigerators. Samsung you might want to change the design of your ice makers. It sucks that I have to have a countertop ice maker which takes up space in my already small kitchen. Frustrating because I have all Samsung products in my kitchen.

MORE THAN EXPECTED

I have grown to enjoy Samsung's products, so when it was time for a new refrigerator, I did my home work and bought a Samsung. This model had everything I wanted in my kitchen, and none of what I didn't want. The ice maker and water dispensers work well, the showcase door is great, I don't have to let all the cold air out to grab a beverage. The surprise was that after I got it installed I learned that it had "SMART" features that I hadn't expected. Everything is easy to use and understand, without all of the technical double talk that you can get reading an owners manual! Thanks Samsung!

Great Counter-depth fridge

This was a great purchase and I am so glad we got the counter depth model instead of the regular one, since this fit in nicely. Good performance and features and decent space with a huge freezer. The door-in-door is a great feature too.

Nice Fridge

We had a much larger Samsung and had to downsize to the counter depth model for our new kitchen. While it's hard to adjust down, this fridge is much the same configuration as our old one, so that makes it a little better. We really like the lighting within the fridge and the front interface for water and ice is easy to use and understand. The only thing that's a little odd is the subtle noises that the fridge makes. I think it may be when it's filling the ice trays or something. You hear a little hum or something. Other than that, we like the fridge.

Good Refrigerator, But for a Few Things

We generally like this refrigerator overall, and especially like the quick access door, water dispenser (strong stream and easy to clean), and front control panel. Just a few things are disappointing or downright annoying: (1) ice maker periodically makes loud "knocks" that can be heard from elsewhere in our house, (2) crushed ice dispenser is very slow to dispense, (3) the slim wrap-around left door pockets are almost useless, and (4), the deli drawer cannot be accessed without fully opening both of the French doors.

We only had it for less than a month but so far so good. We chose it because of the food showcase and of course the energy efficiency. When the delivery guy installed it, there was an error coming up on the screen and said that's the first time he encountered that code error and shouldn't be doing that. We had to call customer care and instructed us to just restore the setting. Other than that, it's all good and hopefully this refrigerator will last long.

We fill ours with lots of fresh meat and produce and still have room for large dishes and bottles. Looks great, easy access to all stored items, quiet. Can't complain will purchase Sammy for our next appliance.

We have only had this refrigerator since 12/07/16. So, so far it seems like it is running well. A little noisy at times and the doors are a little uneven and the showcase seems a little loose. But so far doing well. We will re-review in a few months.

Good looking fridge

After waiting 3 months for our fridge (it was back-ordered through Lowe's) we finally got it and we are super happy with it. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars was this supposed back order from Samsung. I think when you advertise and sell products around a major holiday, you should have adequate product availability, but whatever... This fridge has exceeded my expectations. I love the design and the surprising amount of space. It's well thought-out and holds a ton! It is a little noisy for a fridge but we got used to it.

I really like the space that this refrigerator affords, and the preview door is really a nice feature. You just need to get used to where to grab the handle :) One of the problems in the design is that the vegetable drawer does not open fully unless the carrier is removed off of the side door. This is frustrating when I need to reach in to retrieve items that are in the back of the drawer.

Great counter-depth fridge that holds a lot

This fridge was easy to set up ( automatically chills down within 2 hours without having to do anything other than plugging it in) and allows one to see the food easily. I recycled my old side-by-side standard fridge that stuck out and this Samsung counter-depth seems to hold about as much without letting items get buried into the back of the fridge all while helping to make my kitchen look more spacious. It is easier to get wide items like frozen pizza into the freezer with this type. I like that the paddle one pushes for ice is stainless. The ice maker on this model may not make enough ice if one entertains or has a large family but i think it will be sufficient for me. The exterior stainless steel finish looks best if one uses tap water on a micro fiber cloth. So far, so good.

Samsung Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator with door-in-doors feature

Had it two days and it is absolutely gorgeous! This is a well designed 'fridge, and counter depth makes it look like a built in. The only negative so far is that the icemaker is weak. I am hoping that the icemaker will be better as it fills up over the next couple of days. However, I knew going in that the icemaker in this model did not get great reviews. That having been said, I review products extensively before I buy them, and this was by far the best counter depth french door refrigerator I found. I have come to rely on Samsung products, and am very satisfied with my purchase. I would definitely recommend it!

This product makes our kitchen

This unit is very handsome and compliments our kitchen excellently. It is a very quiet unit. With the freezer on the bottom it is much more comfortable getting food from the refrigerator section, not having to bow down. With the glass shelves and various lights, it is easy to see everything in it. with the special door we can get condiments without opening the full doors. We are enjoying it very much.

First one ordered was delivered damaged, Samsung Customer Service took care of it right away and sent out a new one, while leaving the damaged unit as a loaner. I like all the features of this model and the looks are attractive. The easy access door is very nice to have. Only one drawback and that's ice maker capacity is pretty small, versus the dual ice-maker I had on a competitor's product previously. Over-all happy with the performance of this product and would buy again.

It will take some trial and error to get the most efficient use of the space in this refrigerator. Lots of shelf options and small spaces for little items. Best features are the outside control panel/water/ice dispenser and door within a door.

Samsung nails it on the latest lines of metal cooling, French door/bottom freezer refrigerators. This was a a package deal with stove, microwave, and dishwasher. The promotion was irresistible, and I am so happy we jumped on the opportunity and best pricing we had seen for over a year. We've been seriously looking at this and similar lines, but always came back to the Samsung line. It's a beauty, and now we will remodel around the new Samsung appliances. Counter depth made this a perfect fit in our early 60's built home. Impressive combination of technology and style. The multi-zonal humidity controls and temperature ranges makes this a great means to organize and store all deli, produce, dairy, and various snacks - with plenty of room for everything. The only thing I would change would be the plastic door bin material/designs. One original bin (with movable stabilizer bar) was broken at the point of contact/pin. It was quickly replaced, but it seems the mechanism could be better designed, or the material used might need to be improved.

Much happier than expected

I loved the design of this product and it's features were what I had waited 2 years to find. Due to problems with delivery from Home Depot I had time to look my French Door frig up on computer. Everyone gave it high reviews on design and features but I nearly cancelled my order as there were all these reviews saying the ice maker was so bad it would only make enough ice for 2 people-not 3. But I liked the other features so much-my old ice maker was excellent for 14 years and still working great-we actually gave our old frig to a family we knew needed one. Decided maybe the reviews were wrong for our model. We got our Samsung frig and LOVE it. We had a family party for our granddaughters birthday and guess what the reviews were wrong!! We had ice for everyone! And more ice to spare. So my review is excellent for this product including the ice maker. Thanks!Its a beautiful frig -exactly what I hoped and searched for the last two years.

A good choice if you are looking for counter depth french door

We were kinda specific about the measurements of the refrigerator that was a french door one and also had some cool features as of this year.. this model came within our budget and was a counter depth one, has good amount of storage space, veggie and fruit trays separate to configure different humidity settings. The freezer section has two compartments which allows you to separate the frequently accessed vs occassional items. The door-in-door feature is the coolest. I do not have to open the full door and lose the chillness but can just open the door minimally to grab and go what i need.. the refrigerator is silent in functioning and the sides alone allow you to stick all the fav magnets you want .. the Esmart option allows you to connect from smartphone and chose some power features.. wish i was able to set the temperatures from the smartphone app .. in all am happy that this one has most of the features that we were looking for.. definitely recommend if you are looking for a decent french door config ..

Nice Frige

Our 15 year old other premium brand finally gave up and we needed something fairly fast. I checked out ratings etc., and decided Samsung was the best choice for our home and budget. The 3 door model, counter depth, with the door in a door seemed like the perfect choice. Our local store did not have this model in stock but did in their warehouse. 24 hours later we had our new refrigerator. Although not set up completely by the delivery service, it was an easy matter. The quality and finish are of the uppermost detail as is the very thoughtful interior, plus the features and the quietness make this an ideal refrigerator for just about any household.
