dont buy samsung refrigerator

Submitted by russ - 9/23/2021

we bought this fridge in 2016 and it has been nothing but a headache. it's more than just problems with the icemaker - the inner guts of the fridge easily get covered with ice. this causes all kinds of very loud noises and after a certain amount of time, the temperature regulator will not work right. appliance repairmen have to take everything apart and de-ice it. then it works fine for awhile ---until the ice builds up again. apparently there is no fix for this as it keeps happening over and over. you are wasting your money, will stop working ever 6 months. save your money dont buy.

Submitted by JustChillin - 9/23/2020

disappointed with this unit which i purchased in oct 2015. about 2 years in it started making loud noises. tech from company i bought it from found the back coils were frozen inside the fridge. thawed. this has happed 2 times since then and based on how long it takes it will likely strike again soon. this week though i found the inside temp to be 30 degrees despite being set at 44. my warranty is up so now i have to start paying to keep it running.

Worked well and then 2 big problems...

Submitted by Markaritaville - 9/4/2020

worked well for a while then two big product defects surfaced: refrigerator section fans start making alot of noise then the refrigerator section stops cooling all together - spoiled food and dairy products! the other problem is the ice maker freezes up and stops making ice. get your ice breaking tools out to knock off chunks of ice that have formed and block the icemaker from working. multiple appliance repair orders and it still has these problems,

Ice maker freezes up and leaks water

Submitted by Bhersh - 6/10/2020

I have been experiencing an issue that appears to be a common from the reviews. The ice maker will freeze over and stop making ice. Now water is collecting under the bottom drawer and is leaking out of the fridge on to the hardwood floors. The only way I have been able to prevent this issue is by shutting off the ice maker completely. Obviously that is not a real solution.

Stick to TVs

Submitted by Elizw - 5/16/2019

I loved the look and size of this refrigerator, until it stopped functioning correctly. The first sign of trouble was when ice formed under the large middle drawer, requiring a huge tug to break the ice and open the drawer. Then, the ice maker started freezing / frosting preventing ice from dispensing. This required a hair dryer to thaw everything 2-3 time per week. When I did research, this is a prevalent problem encountered by hundreds. It appears the only solution is to thaw the refrigerant lines by dismantling the entire fridge - which is required about every 6 months. And - Samsung is not willing to do anything to in terms of a long-term fix. So after owning this just 4.5 years, we'll be buying a new (non-Samsung) refrigerator and tossing this one. (And you know what these cost!)

When it works - it's great... BUT

Submitted by Heavychops - 5/14/2019

So, I bought this model fridge a little over 4 years ago. The build date on it is Nov. 2014. I don't know if Samsung has made an engineering improvement on the fan and the fan housing, but, that seems to be the problematic area with my fridge. Like many others who own this model (and I think several others with the same/similar design), you'll discover a number of reviews that mention a loud fan noise. Mine did that. Then, I read how to fix it - watched a couple videos online and set out to fix it myself. It took a couple of hours, but I removed the entire back panel (after removing the shelves), got to the fan and coolant area and discovered a massive ice buildup. Got it all melted and cleaned up... and a little over 4 months later the same fan noise kicked up again.... until the fan stopped entirely about a week later. I just completed my second full tearout of the back panel, melted all the ice, etc. This time I also removed the fan from the back panel and discovered a huge chunk of ice that surrounded the fan box. Anyway, I can't say that I'm too impressed. We bought this refrigerator at close to full price, around $3,000 (if I remember correctly), and I really struggle to see how this thing will last much longer. My patience certainly has depleted enough to go online, find this product, and write this review for others to consider. Our ice maker has been fine... although "cube" ice is mostly half crushed and "crushed" ice is pulverized. But, at least it attempts to function as designed. So now we are considering a replacement and although Samsung has some really cool features, I have a hard time justifying an investment of $2,400 to $3,200 for a refrigerator that may only be problem-free for 4 years.

ICE MAKER PROBLEMS

Submitted by KatComo - 5/13/2019

After reading review on the ice maker in my refrigerator I guess I shouldn't be surprised mine has stopped working. So not only is the refrigerator poorly designed for space, the ice maker stinks. If I replace it my self its about $200 if I call a repairman probably close to $800. Ugh. Why can't anyone build appliances to last any more? This refrigerator is less then 3 years old!

Horrible refrigerator

Submitted by mine1700 - 2/24/2019

I've had this refrigerator for about 2 years, and the ice maker freezes up and stops working constantly. At first it was every 6 months, then every 3 months, now it's every 6 weeks. Every time it freezes up, I have to defrost the fridge, and reset the ice maker, an enormous inconvenience. Now it is out of warranty and I have to pay for service to get it looked at. I bought all Samsung appliances when I remodeled my kitchen 2 years ago, I will NEVER buy Samsung appliances again. PS, this is the second time I've had to write this review, the first one I couldn't confirm because I was sent a non-working link, hmmm.

Looks great, but lacks in performance

Submitted by lulrych - 2/8/2019

I bought this fridge about 2.5 years ago after doing quite a bit of research on new refrigerators and this one had everything that I was looking for. It looked great and had all of the features that I needed. Performed well for a few months and then the ice maker starts blocking up and needs to get cleared regularly. Started out once a month or so, and now I am up to at least once a week. Support keeps telling me to reset the ice maker, but that doesn't work. Be cautious about buying this particular model, it's highly unlikely that I will buy another Samsung refrigerator.

Do your homework before buying a Samsung Refrig

Submitted by Rob429 - 1/18/2019

Samsung makes a nice looking refrigerator, but I wish they spent a lot more effort on the working parts. PLEASE do your homework on Samsung refrigerators before buying, search the web for the problems with their ice makers, the problems with the defrost cycle, and handles that fail easily. Just so you know, when the freezer door handle breaks, you have to buy the front door because you cannot get the plastic piece that always fails. Ask a Samsung repair man, it is actually cheaper to replace the door for $250 and do it yourself. (there are only 4 screws that hold the entire door on.) The ice maker has a flaw in the design that they have not been able to correct. There is a recall on some models, but it is a temporary fix. The real problem is the failure in the defrost system. Somewhere from 6 to 18 months you will start to hear a noise in the refrigerator section. This is where ice has built up on the evaporator coil and the fan is hitting the ice. Eventually the ice will stop the fan from spinning and you have to take the refrigerator apart to melt the ice. Search Youtube videos, there are numerous ones out there. I have learned that using a hair dryer and about 2 hours of time, NEVER use full heat on the hair dryer, buys about 1 month at a time. But you do not have to pull all your food out of the refrig, remove the shelves and then remove the inside panel to get to the evaporator coil.

Submitted by mproper1 - 1/17/2019

We've had this refrigerator a little over two years and would not recommend to anyone. The original unit had to be replaced within 6 weeks of purchase when the ice maker froze up. Since then the ice maker has been worked on several times (latest today) and we are completely dissatisfied with this product. In addition to the ice maker problems, the stainless steel has discolored and stained.

Submitted by The Cook - 12/14/2018

We bought this fridge in 2014 and it has been nothing but a headache. As one positive, I do really like the design of the door-in-a-door. I have looked at other fridges out there and so far no one makes one like this.

Not recommended if you have wood floors

Submitted by CoFamily - 12/12/2018

We purchased this fridge 4 years ago. We love the look, the beverage door but were very disappointed when we began to have ice maker issues 2 years in. We initially would have issues with the ice maker freezing up and the cheese tray would then begin to collect water. With time it has only worsened, now the entire area under the cheese tray fills with water, so much so I can splash, it then begins leaking in to the freezer drawer and on to our new wood floors. Needless to say, we are less than pleased. Fortunately we've been home when this has happened and able to clean up quickly but there us still evidence of our floor swelling and we're afraid to go out of town. I'll have to find a sitter for our fridge. Extremely dissatisfied. Love my TV and phone but never again will I recommend or buy Samsung appliances

Don't have anything to say negative about the appearance, but mine is under 3 years old, ice maker is constantly frozen, frig side requires manual defrosting and service. Once my repair costs out weigh my patience, I will take it outside and turn it into a meat smoker. As stated, I've owned this for less than 36 months, service has been here 3 times and I have to do what repairs I can. AND I PAID FOR THIS EXPERIENCE?

ICE MAKER IS A NIGHTMARE!!

Submitted by very upset - 10/8/2018

We bought the frig for several reasons, looks, ice maker/water in door, the "outside" door that opens separately, bottom drawer. We were very happy for the first year, (biggest complaint at the time was how slow the ice comes out & cubed ice would come out with mixed crushed), but other than that everything was great. For the last year & 1/2 we have had to blow dry the ice maker 2x per month because off all of the ice build up on the outside of the ice maker. It would get so bad it would stop making ice all together! We did not purchase the extended warranty at Home Depot because I had recently lost my job and we were having to put this on the store credit card. The current refrigerator we had at the time broke. Today we finally had to call a repair man, an authorized Samsung dealer, to come take a look at it because not only was the build up worse than normal, BUT the frig was now running much warmer than normal. We were informed that the ice maker is a VERY COMMON issue with this refrigerator. Because the issue was so bad, the coils in the back of the refrigerator had so much ice build up on them the back panel of the fridge cracked and caused the fan to stop working on the compressor. The fan was replace ($250) and he "repaired the crack" with some plumbers putty he had (because to replace this would be $700). He happened to have the putty because he repaired THE EXACT SAME THING ON THE EXACT SAME MODEL last week for someone else!!! Nothing about this is OKAY for a 3 year old expensive refrigerator! 3 YEARS is the life expectancy for a refrigerator these days??? Not OKAY! There should absolutely be a RECALL on this model!

Submitted by Robertu281 - 8/30/2018

I purchased this refrigerator in April 2016 and the extended warranty company decided to give me store credit to pick the brand and model of my choosing in August 2018 because the ice maker kept breaking down and they had spent more than half of the refrigerator's value in attempting to fix the ice maker. First there was ice formation around the internal ice bin, which stopped ice production because Samsung did not seal the unit properly (per technician). Next problem was that it would not produce ice. Several technicians and five visits later (and taking off from work), and pretty much the entire ice unit replaced, still no ice production. We purchased this expensive unit to specifically to have ice and water in the door, so very disappointed to hear from the technicians Samsung has issues with its ice makers. No issues in other areas, but you expect the ice maker to work in a relatively expensive refrigerator.

INFERIOR (BUT VERY EXPENSIVE) PRODUCT

Submitted by WontBuySamsungAgain2 - 8/27/2018

I refused delivery of the first refrigerator after I tested the door-in-door feature and couldn't get the outer door to open by itself at all unless I pried the doors apart with my hands. You're supposed to push a button that releases it from the inner door, but the doors weren't separating from each other at all. I had to wait another week for a replacement, which is only slightly better. The front panel will *sometimes* release from the inner panel, but not before bringing the inner panel halfway along with it before the inner one slams back into place. I've had this refrigerator three days now and not once has the outer panel opened properly. Additionally, the multi-purpose bars (metal divider/support bars) in the tray inserts in the door won't move (they're supposed to be adjustable); the water from the water dispenser is room temperature, not chilled; and they put the 2"x 4" bright white sticker with the serial number on the *exterior* of the refrigerator instead of the interior of the door, so it's glaringly obvious, ugly and annoying. To add insult to injury, their repair service gives a NINE HOUR WINDOW. They expect you to set aside an entire day (and be docked pay or take a vacation day from work) waiting around for them to come fix their inferior product. I'll never buy another Samsung.

POOR

Submitted by monarch2u - 8/18/2018

t worked fine the first 2 years then we started getting frost build up in the icemaker. Next when you put your glass under the dispenser for ice you would get a bath as melted ice ran out the flap door. After looking online I saw this was a common problem. I defrosted the icemaker however, after a few days the same issue again. I should not be having this issue with a fridge that is less than 3 years old. We called service, but our warranty ran out and it would cost a great deal to have it fixed. This appliance wasn't cheap and we cannot afford to purchase another refrigerator. This is a design defect that is affecting lots of consumers. Samsung should recall the icemaker and make it right. I will definitely avoid Samsung appliances in the future. And since they won't stand behind their product, I will never buy Samsung AGAIN!

Submitted by Trudygreene - 5/28/2018

My samsung refrigerator 1st started having problems with the ice machine not defrosting and now the refrigerator won't cool and behind the cover inside the refrigerator it is freezing up and stopping the fan. And have had it for 3 years or so. Found out what was going on by going online seeing videos. And seeing that i was having the same problem so its seems to be a problem.

Don't Buy If You Want Ice

Submitted by Kelly732 - 5/22/2018

We were very happy with this fridge. It worked fine the first 2 years then we started getting frost build up in the icemaker. Next when you put your glass under the dispenser for ice you would get a bath as melted ice ran out the flap door. After looking online I saw this was a common problem. I defrosted the icemaker and it worked for a few days then same issue again. After several defrost it stop making ice all together. If I hit the reset button it will dump ice then will chime a few minutes later and stop working. So apparently if I want ice I have to hit the reset button each time to get it to dump. Really Samsung? I should not be having this issue with a fridge that is less than 4 years old. This is a design defect that is affecting lots of consumers. Samsung should recall the icemaker and make it right. I will definitely avoid Samsung appliances in the future. I think they need to stick to electronics.

Poor Performance

Submitted by Eagles2018 - 3/30/2018

I do not know if the people who purchased this refrigerator have the extended warranty, or had it more than one year. After my first two years with this refrigerator, I have had nothing but problem. However, the problems started right after my warranty expire. I had/have freezing in my ice maker, fan motor going out, and/or now what looks like my compressor. I purchased this refrigerator based on the capacity and the rating that it received in 2015, and now I see that it's still be rated an 82. However, if you google Samsung refrigerator errors, you would see that there are several consumer venting their dissatisfaction of this particular product, and if you read what they are saying they all state that they would NOT RECOMMEND Samsung refrigerator to a friend, or even any enemy. I have been having problems and I have come to conclusion, that I will put this refrigerator out for recycle and purchase anything but a Samsung refrigerator.

This refrigerator is beautiful, but it is a total waste of money

Submitted by takeahike - 1/18/2018

Bought this refrigerator 1 1/2 years ago, July 2016, a little over a year later the ice machine froze up. I thought it was just because we were out of town and wasn't using it enough. Thawed it all out, pushed the reset button and within a few months it did it again. It's a monthly occurrence now until today when it quit working completely. Went online and read reviews, apparently the ice maker is a design flaw and everyone has problems with it. Samsung should then extend the warranty on it if they know that. The reality is, the freezer below is too small to keep anything in it, the condiment shelves on the door are too small to keep anything in it, and it doesn't have as much room as one would think. This beast cost us a fortune, took a year to pay for it, and now it's practically useless to us. I am so very disappointed in this fridge. Will never buy a samsung refrigerator again.

Door within a Door Problem

Submitted by FrustratedwithSamsungDoor - 1/8/2018

One of the primary features for purchase was showcase fridge door. Floor models' showcase door worked perfectly (in multiple stores). Our showcase door hasn't worked correctly since day it's been delivered. Issue is a give/lag between the two doors. Now 1 yr & 2 mns and still working w/ furniture store, 3rd party repair svc and ext. warranty provider. Repairman noted in his 9 years of experience, Samsung's door-within-a-door has never worked properly. Samsung - you should permanently fix this door issue or provide customers w/ a new fridge that works properly and stop selling new fridges w/ doors that don't work. Other people have had these issues as well; just search for "samsung showcase fridge door issues".

Junk

Submitted by SherryHB - 11/4/2017

Purchased in 2015. Ice maker kept freezing up. Had to fight with them to fix it they kept saying it was out of warranty because they used the date of purchase not the date delivered. Finally someone came and replaced the entire ice maker. NOPE 2 months later doing the same thing. Ice maker freezes and covered in ice once a mont and drips water. Doors do not open very wide on front. Freezer tray does not go in very far. Sales people tell me it is one of the worst.

Showcase door

Submitted by teachmac - 10/7/2017

Am I the only one having a problem with the showcase door opening by itself? both doors want to open unless I really jerk it . They sent a guy out and he says its because of the magnet? I know there is a magnet but when you press the latch shouldnt the outside door open smoothly? Samsung says they will send a new door but this guy seems to think I will still have the same problem.

Great product but not perfect

Submitted by Proton7 - 8/3/2017

We have only owned our RF28HDEDBSR refrigerator a short while but love it so far. The biggest aggravation was removing the plastic protective film from all of the surfaces. This film was tucked under finished edges so that I had to use a knife to cut off all the pieces that did not come out during removal. No matter how carefully I tried little plastic pieces remained. The left door storage areas are so small that they are almost useless. The remaining shelves and door pockets are perfect with flexible shelf location and shelves that hinge up or slide back to make room for larger items. The machine is a little noisy during cooling cycles with sort of a low rumble sound but is acceptable. The important thing is that the temperature control seems to be awesome. I have installed a remote temperature monitoring system and the temperatures only vary a few degrees throughout the day. When you touch the door controls it will display your setpoint temperatures for the fridge and freezer. I wish you could also see a display for actual temperatures as well. The Stainless finish is very easy to wipe down to maintain a brilliant appearance. We have other Stainless products that require a lot of work to get a streak free appearance, this fridge is easy to maintain.
